Never Miss a Beat (Originally Posted December 7, 2015)

As many people know, one of the most influential people for me when it comes to music is the lovely Taylor Swift. (side note: While looking up information for this post, a query Google suggested was, I sh*t you not, "Is Taylor Swift American?") Today (December 7, 2015) it was announced that she is nominated for seven Grammys. SEVEN. #proudswiftie Here's her list:

  • Album of the Year - '1989'

  • Record of the Year - 'Blank Space'

  • Song of the Year - 'Blank Space'

  • Best Pop Solo Performance - 'Blank Space'

  • Best Pop Duo/Group Performance - 'Bad Blood'

  • Best Pop Vocal Album - '1989'

  • Best Music Video - 'Bad Blood'

Not bad for an album you can't listen to on Spotify. In her career, she has gone 7 for 29 at the Grammys. The last time she won was for her collab with the Civil Wars for the Hunger Games soundtrack called "Safe & Sound" in 2013. I have such a good feeling that she will win at least one this year because in my opinion, this album was her best. Although she was fantastic as a country artist, you can tell that she found herself while making this album. There's a feeling of comfort and confidence with this album. When 1989 was released October 27, 2014, I was one of the crazy Taylor Swift fans that bought the digital and physical album. It was thatgood. I constantly listened to the entire album for a month and a half straight. I made other people listen to it for a month and a half straight (shoutout to Jarvis for jamming to Blank Space with me in your office for like three days straight). Hell, I'm listening to it as I write this. It is impossible to get sick of this album. Yes, you can stray away for a few days or weeks but I keep finding my way back to it. Let's just say I can't shake it off, shake it off. Sorry but I had to. As with every single album and song she has ever released, you can find a way to relate it to your current situation. For some reason, this album has been more relevant for me. Every single track has been spot on to any situation I have found myself in since the album was released and the comfort it has provided for me has been fantastic. I should also point out that we basically have Harry Styles to thank for this entire album. Don't try to deny it. Back to the nominations. I personally believe there are songs that are more worthy of nominations (even her deluxe tracks are worthy of being singles) on the album but "Blank Space" and "Bad Blood" are by far her most popular. I could be wrong but the noms could be based on performance on the charts, not on actual quality of the song. Just my theory. I'm predicting at least one win for "Blank Space". Based on how well "Mean" (another song written about critics) did at the 2012 Grammys, its almost a guaranteed win. In case you forgot, "Mean" won for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song. Not sure I can guarantee wins for "Bad Blood" with the exception for Best Music Video because of the crazy effects and the fact that her squad were the stars. If she wins this category, it'll be the first time in her eleven year career. 1989 has sold 8,600,000 copies since its release. Its 5x platinum. Although its her second highest selling album, highest being Fearless which is totally deserved, I know once it wins at least one Grammy, sales will climb a little bit higher. If you haven't done so already, please do yourself a favor and buy/download the album. I know I will be either watching or following along on Twitter on the night of February 15th to see what my girl TSwift walks away with. Actually I'll probably watch it to see if she's grown out of her "surprise" face yet. Here's hoping she has. I was going to post the links to my two favorite songs from the album but because Taylor has gone nuts with copyrights for the songs (I know its somewhat fair of her but still makes me sad that I can't share her music via YouTube. Still love you Tay.) Instead, here's Ingrid Michaelson covering my favorite off the album, Clean.
